How to Make Things Happen & Stop Procrastinating!

Stop Procrastinating

“There are those who work like a dog to make things happen, there are those who watch things happen, and then there are those who wonder what happened.” Be the person who makes things happen.

Sometimes you have to work hard – really hard. If you want to be extraordinary in your own self, you must do the things that most other people are not willing to do.

But how does one make things happen?

Procrastination simply doesn’t exist in those who ‘make things happen’.

If you do however suffer from procrastination sometimes you can use it to your advantage. Since you have put something off for so long the pain of not doing it becomes so great, you get so annoyed with yourself that you haven’t done it that you just say ‘That’s it! I’ve had enough! I’m doing it – NO MATTER WHAT!’

This point can be called your snap or breaking point. Compelling you to do something about your situation once and for all.

If you are a procrastinator you may as well just get to this state and then JUST DO IT!

You will find that once you have actually done the thing you had put off for all this time – you will realise that most times than not, it really wasn’t as ‘hard’ as you made it out to be.

Once you’ve done it you will have renewed confidence in yourself that you are actually capable of doing things and so stick with that momentum and keep on going until you forget what procrastination is!

But in the beginning you will want to remember just how bad you felt after you put something off for so long that it compels you to do everything possible not to get into that situation again.

Making things happen also doesn’t occur simply through wishing it so or force. If you try to force something to happen or when you get extremely frustrated that things are not happening exactly as you would like them to, you may lack some awareness of the ways in which the universe works and balance.  If so, sometimes one must be patient and allow the universe to work its wonders.

The No.1 Tip in Making Things Happen is:

Once you have DECIDED to do something, when it’s in your plans, in your calendar, when you know it’s going to help you achieve your goal then DO NOT CHANGE YOUR MIND when the time comes.

Here is what I mean…

When you say to yourself for example: “This week I AM going to get back into my full exercise program 3 nights a week starting from 5.30pm until 6.30pm… or This weekend I AM going to get my books out and study and finish unit.. or This month I am going catapult my business or career to greater success by focusing on my marketing strategy”

Here is where you have all the best intentions… you really want to do it but then what happens?

The time comes and you then say to yourself: “Oh should I go and exercise… mmmh but if I just stay back at work another hour instead of going to the gym I could get so much more done… I can go tomorrow” “the weekend comes and you think well I haven’t done it yet, I should do it but you know what? Another weekend won’t matter” “or before I go and work on my business or career I’ll just finish watching this TV program, have another cup of tea or clean the house a bit more…”

Then what happens?

The time has gone and it’s too late, another evening, morning, weekend or month has gone.

So what do you say?

You justify all the reasons why you couldn’t do it…

Why do we say this?

Because it makes us feel better!

But what have we actually done?

We have let ourselves down…

We DECIDED to do something, and then when the time came we decided to go against that original plan for not greater purpose or importance.. it was just too hard and we swap it for something that seemed easier, more fun or more important at the time.

Now don’t get me wrong some things do turn out to be more important but it’s not those things we’re not talking about right now.

It’s those tasks, activities, goals and/or achievements that you know you could do, want to do but you’re just not doing. Often you watch other people doing them and that just makes you feel even worse.

So to stop procrastinating and make things happen it’s time to decide and then – don’t change your mind when the time comes! It really can be as simple as that! Tell yourself in advance that when the time comes, I know I will change my mind and not do it for that is my pattern of behaviour. To break the pattern I need to put everything else out of my mind and focus all my positive energies on just picking myself up and doing the actual thing that has been weighing me down for too long.

Get liberated, make things happen, make a plan, gather what you need, start it now, follow through and finish it! Don’t let procrastination appear half way through. Ensure you deliver!

It’s the best feeling! Enjoy each step of the way to be the one who ‘Makes Things Happen’ in your life for if you don’t no one else will.
