Invest a Percentage of your Income in Companies who Promote Research and Development Part 10

Guest Blog Post: Bronwyn Woodgate

Today Bronwyn shares her final tip on Environmentally Healthy Living – Invest a Percentage of your Income in Companies who Promote Research and Development!

Change is the only constant in the world of today.

Therefore it is necessary for us to be aware of and consume products which have a minimal impact on the world around us.

Companies are constantly creating and adapting everyday materials and products which reduce our impact on the environment.  These companies research and develop new technologies which initiate and facilitate the production of sustainable materials.

Therefore when purchasing new products consider the materials used in the packaging and if they are recyclable.

Invest your time into environmental campaigns such as ‘clean up Australia day’ or ‘plant a tree day’.

Also, if possible, invest your money into companies who promote research and development into sustainable materials, as this enables you to give back to the community while also investing your money in a worthy cause.

Do you have a favourite company who promote research and development? Please write below we would love to hear your comments!

Well I hope you have enjoyed my 10 part series on Environmentally Healthy Living and thanks for reading!

Environmentally Healthy Living – Use Low Energy Consuming Goods Part 9

Guest Blog Post: Bronwyn Woodgate

Environmentally Healthy Living – Use Low Energy Consuming Goods

When purchasing new goods, such as lights, white goods, bathroom appliances, look for the ‘low energy consumption’ sign to ensure you are maximising energy efficiency for operating your products.

In Australia, is it said that heating and cooling account for 38% of our energy use.

Much of the energy is quickly lost through the ceiling, windows and draughts we may have in our house.

Therefore, you can also reduce your energy bills by implementing different practices in your home.

The following tips may be useful to reduce the consumption:

  1. Use heating and cooling technologies which are energy efficient;
  2. Only heat or cool the rooms being used rather than the entire house;
  3. Set the temperature to between 18-21⁰C in winter and 25-27⁰C in summer;
  4. Turn off all electronic devices every night and when you leave the house – if it blinks, switch it off; and
  5. Before turning on or up the heater or cooler put on or take off a layer of clothing.  If you are cold, put a jumper on cover up under a blanket.  If you are hot, put on a top which is breathable.[1]
