Environmentally Healthy Living – Recycle Recycle Recyle Part 2

Guest Blog Post – Bronwyn Woodgate

Welcome to part 2 of ‘Environmentally Healthy Living’ Recycle Recycle Recyle

In addition to the weekly recycle bin collection there are many other ways and products you can recycle which you consume on a daily basis. Around your house you can reuse many old or worn materials for other functions. This tip involves using your creativity and ingenuity.

For example use old clothes as cleaning rags inside or outside the house. When cleaning the car or dusting use an old towel or t-shirt instead of a sponge or cleaning cloth. They do just as good a job and you are assisting the consumption of further goods.

You can also recycle old envelopes and use them as ‘to do’ lists or ‘shopping’ lists each week.

Instead of purchasing new clothes all the time, consider shopping at a vintage store or factory outlet. This is another form of recycling as you are reusing old items and reducing the demand for the production of new clothes. In addition, you can donate your own old clothes to second hand clothing shops or sell your clothes at a market.

Remember to always recycle and properly dispose of your household items. To make it easier to recycle your household items, place a second bin next to your kitchen bin specifically for recycled materials. If it cannot fit, find another place for it in an easy to access spot.

For goods that cannot be recycled, always ensure they are correctly dispose of. For example each council will have a community waste disposal site to dispose of items such as paints, electronic goods and batteries.

Do you have some more tips to share on how to recycle at home or in your office? We would love to hear form you, please write your recycling tips below!
