Facing the Fear of Failure

Buckminster Fuller wrote, “Whatever humans have learned had to be learned as a consequence only of trial and error experience. Humans have learned only through mistakes.”

Many people achieve a small fraction of what they are capable of achieving because they are afraid to try in case they fail. In society today, even though it encourages innovation, it also punishes failure. So is the fear of punishment the key to the fear of failure?

A fear of failing will result in a person avoiding situations/challenges/decisions that doesn’t guarantee success. Thus when confronted with a questionable/challenging task, anxiety develops and, like any fear, the person backs away. This is natural.

However, taking risks is one of the only ways to get ahead in life, and with risk comes a chance of failure. Those with good vision and self belief are those who are able to overcome this fear and take the risks needed to excel in all aspects of their lives.

Nervousness of the task ahead shows humility on what is expected and questioning the task shows that the ego is checked into place. This allows for someone to succeed since arrogance and ego are all but gone. It shows that they are ready.

Are you ready?

Never Give Up!

“When things go wrong as they sometimes will;
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill;
When the funds are low, and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but have to sigh;
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.
Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you can never tell how close you are
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit-
It’s when things go wrong that you must not quit.”

Who’s Important?

We all are!

We all have people who are very important to us personally in our immediate lives but when talking about people’s lives as a whole who are we to say who’s more important than someone else? I believe we are all put on this earth for a reason and each have our own purpose and are one piece of the big jigsaw puzzle. Thinking this way helps you to genuinely care and be considerate and respect all others on earth.

So since every human being is important on the large scale of things and on their own spiritual life journey, don’t forget that you are important too. If you ever feel that you’re about to meet or are with someone of great importance think “We’re just two important people sitting down to discuss something of mutual interest and benefit”.

Everyone wants to feel important so it pays to make them feel this way because when you make others feel important you help yourself feel important too.

6 Tips to making others and yourself feel important:

  • Learn people’s names & use them often!
  • Make little people feel like big people
  • Successful people follow a plan for liking people
  • Don’t put people down
  • No one is perfect, others have a right to be different, don’t always try to reform or change them or expect them to be like you
  • Take the time & go out of your way to congratulate other people’s achievement

In business and all relationships, making the other person feel important will go a long way. One of the greatest differences in successful and unsuccessful people and businesses, are those who have figured out and those who never ‘get it’ is in how they get their own feeling of importance. Successful people are usually those who help others and satisfy the other person’s need to feel important.

Someone can absolutely rave about your business or company if you stand out from the crowd by making every single customer or client feel important. And remember they all are! When people feel this way they won’t notice the other details nearly as much, such as how much they liked where you studied, how long you have been in practice, how your office looks or was conveniently located, all of which can be impressive but nothing quite like if you just made them feel SPECIAL. In a fast paced and often selfish world people can neglect to make those who are important to them feel special. So don’t miss out on the opportunity to make everyone feel special every day!

Remember that people may forget what you do and what you say but people will never forget the way you make them feel. So don’t make them feel bad - make them feel good! Good about themselves and life!

Love Your Life!

Plan Your Day Before You Go To Sleep!

What and how you think before you go to sleep at night or even just before you get into bed can affect the way you wake up. If you think you’re going to sleep in because you’re so tired or don’t want to go to work or do something you need to or should do the next morning you can pretty much guarantee that you will sleep in!

I’m sure you can all remember a time when you’ve done this. It’s kind of like the rowing stroke (those of you who know rowing) the start actually starts at the finish! Because depending on how you finish one stroke directly impacts how you start then next one. Imagine this as days, they say if you start the day out badly then it’s all down hill from there, well finish the previous day on top of the world and you can bet you’ll have a much better morning to start that good day on!

So how do you get yourself jumping out of bed every morning? Start finishing each day off better by following these ideas:

  • Wear PJ’s to bed and ones that you like and feel great in. Some people sleep in their clothes, t-shirt shorts etc and are amazed at the difference they feel and sleep quality when they wear specific bed clothes! Reason can be that PJ’s mean comfortable, rest and relaxation so you’ve transitioned from day clothes into night. Just like there is a completely different feeling you have when you experience a day on the couch in your PJ’s compared to just laying around in your jeans. This usually means you’re sick right? Well when you’re sick this can be a form of recovery tool, sleeping in your PJ’s is also a recovery time where your body rests and repairs itself, cells, energy etc for the next day. Miss this and there’s no way you’ll be at your personal best especially after a while when you’re in sleep debt! But that’s another story…
  • Have a clean and tidy room. Keep your bedroom as a place to sleep and not have clothes (that’s what your cupboards are for) computers, junk or stuff everywhere. The state of your bedroom directly impacts how you feel. If you see cluttered and untidiness you will think and reflect the next day in an untidy, cluttered way instead of waking up to a clean and totally organized room.
  • Read or relax for 30-60mins before you go to sleep.
  • Close off anything on your mind before going to sleep or make a note to do it the very next morning. Writing it down is very important otherwise it will be on your mind worrying keeping you awake having to remember it or just keeping it there on your mind.
  • Reflect on all the things you are grateful for when curling up in your cosy bed and pillows. It’s pretty easy to be thankful and grateful at this time because an simple one to start with is that you have this nice bed to sleep in and you’re so tired! Having good and positive thoughts before you go to sleep will directly help you to have better ones in the morning and is best way to start the day. You don’t want to hear ‘who got out of the wrong side of bed this morning now do you?’
  • As for what, how much and when you eat before going to bed, try out what suits you best but as a guideline going to bed drunk most certainly does not help you have a good start to the next day, eating too much right before hand keeps your system busy digesting food instead of repairing its cells for the next day and I don’t recommended trying to sleep when you’re absolutely starving! Avoid coffee after 3pm and have positive thoughts that when your head hits the pillow you will fall into a beautiful nights sleep ready for the next day.

Spread Your Smile :o)

Make sure you spread your smile today!

Smiling is infectious

You catch it like the ‘flu’

When someone smiled at me today

I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner

And someone saw me grin

When they smiled I realised

I’d passed it onto them.

I thought about that smile

And realised its worth

A simple smile like mine

Could travel around the earth.

So if you feel a smile again

Don’t leave it undetected

Let’s start an epidemic quick

And get the world infected!
